This handcrafted 3D Red Shouldered Hawk in flight is created from Mahogany, Maple, and Walnut wood veneers. Sturdy, yet lightweight, she is covered in individually hand glued feathers (using waterproof wood glue). Her prehensile feet are created from paper covered wire and can carry small, light weight objects. I created the pattern on her Maple and Mahogany feathers using an actual leaf skeleton as a stencil, a brayer and acrylic paint. She also has a loop for installing suspended, as if in flight.
She weighs approximately 4 oz. Her size; from the tip of tail to beak is approximately 8 inches with a wingspan of 15 inches. She has a coating of a spar-urethane - except for her painted areas which are coated with a water based sealant so her whites remain white. She can live covered outdoors if preferred.
