Breathtakingly intricate, this hummingbird dial is 16 pieces of abalone shell inlaid in the surrounding iridescent mother of pearl.
Process and Materials
We used abalone shell from all over the world to carefully craft this hummingbird.
- Six pieces of pink heart abalone (from Mexico) was used on the underside of the wing to mimic motion with iridescence.
- Brown Mother of Pearl and black-lip abalone (Philippines) was used for the belly and far wing.
- Paua abalone (New Zealand) was tinted blue and aqua for the head and tail and tinted purple for the neck and flowers.
- A clear stone serves as the time marker at 12.
What's special about a Celeste Watch?
