The form is synonymous with a Korean vase called a moon jar or moon vase created during the Joseon Dynasty and has regained popularity within the past several decades. Moon vases are typically white (the color of purity in Korea). However, on the surface of this vase, I chose to demonstrate a Korean technique called bakji. The technique involves slip application, drawing, and slip removal to reveal the drawing. I applied black slip and then drew the pattern I enjoy the most—spirals. Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama loves her dots, and I love spirals, lol.
