"Black and Blue Carapace" Necklace with hand carved jade pendant, lapis bead and hand braided silk cord.
This necklace features a pendant I carved from black Wyoming nephrite jade. The blue line on the pendant is an inlay of oil enamel paint. I'm aware that the use of paint with carved jade is unconventional. This inlay is securely embedded in a groove carved in the jade, and is very permanent.
The pendant is accented by a rich blue lapis lazuli bead and a plant dyed hand braided silk kumihimo cord. The madder red threads in the cord work with the color of the jade, the inlay, and the bead to create a very rich effect.
The length of the necklace is adjustable by means of a sliding black agate bead.
The pendant is signed and dated SCHILLING 2021
The pendant measures 2 3/4" high x x7/8" wide x 3/4" thick, and weighs 0.8 ounces.
