Shield with Circle is 43x10x3", and is made from painted poplar and barn siding.
I think of the shield shape as female. Here I am playing around with the idea of a head on the body. In all my work and especially with this piece, I want the form to be sensitive to how it touches the wall. In drawing attention to this, the outside edges are painted, on the left a yellow-green and on the right a red-brown.
