If you’ve read Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, The Night Kitchen, or Little Bear, you know what a wonderful writer and illustrator he was. I am especially fond of his drawing technique called crosshatching: layers of small dark lines that add softness and depth to a drawing. I’ve adapted that technique to wire and paper in my Crosshatch Series, which comes in two styles: a necklace and earrings. Outlined in stainless steel wire, each necklace and earring component has layers of black paper onto which slivers of white are added in my version of paper crosshatching. The earrings are lightweight and have a satisfying dangle; choose from six shapes: Triangles, Entwined Circles, Ladders, Hills, Halfsies, and Petals. The necklace is made up of linked circles, each one having a slightly different roundish shape and proportion of paper to open space. The length of the necklace easily adjusts. The paper part of the jewelry is sealed for wear.
