Meet the Artist
About This Artist
I create functional handwoven wool rugs, table runners and tapestries for the home. Using sustainable wool from local sources and drawing on my background as a graphic designer, each piece is one-of-a-kind design of my own inspiration. I like to bring beauty to everyday objects that are used appreciated and loved then handed down from generation to generation. That use creates its own kind of beauty showing the love and caring by the owner and maker.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I use wool fiber sourced from sustainable producers mostly in the southwest. I keep a stash of yarn colors and then pull together a color palette before beginning a new rug or runner. Weaving in a painterly fashion, I change colors, shapes and design as the weaving progresses.
A: Creating functional art for the home is my primary passion. I love having functional art pieces in my home and want to share that with others. A handwoven rug adds warmth and color to a room. Wool was a living fiber and has a lot of luster catching the light and is a natural, renewable fiber.
A: From setting up the loom, weaving the piece and then finishing a 2'x3' rug can take about 2-3 weeks. Larger rugs, 4'x6', can take 4-6 weeks. Table runners usually take a week to weave and finish. Pieces with more color and shape changes take longer to weave than pieces with wide areas of solid color.
