Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

My work is made by hand dyeing and hand printing yards of silk fabric in my home studio. I work closely with a small family-owned neckwear company in North Carolina. I have sewing skills, but not strong enough for selling high quality items. With the help of Carolina Textile District, they put me in touch with Brown and Church Ltd, who specialize in and make neckwear.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I love color and i love creating color. I love seeing colors interact with one another to create color or a visual impact. i love the dimensionality of fabric. I love the potential fabric holds-the potential to be anything the maker creates. I love the interaction between the fabric and the creating. I love the process of dyeing, both natural and synthetic-the steps involved. I love the unpredictability of the outcome regardless of the step-by-step process. I love the challenge of creating a visually appealing piece. I love the challenge of creating an evenly dyed piece. i love sharing what i know with others.
