About The Artist

Lily Kim • Billings, MT

I am interested in the phenomenon of the vitality of nature, and have examined ways to express this in my work. I sought to not only address the superficial substance of nature, but to express the values and nobility of life that is hidden.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

The very first step is always looking for a unique stone representing the CORE of life. Adopting the vitality of nature as a major motif, my jewelry serves to express this idea in a tangible form. In my quest to capture the vitality in my work, I adopt natural imagery from cacti in the desert, wildflowers on a city pavement, buds on branches, seed pods, juicy fruits and shining stars in the sky. With elaborate design and fine craftsmanship, I bring my pieces to life. Most of my pieces are all 100% hand fabricated.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I start every single piece of my work with sterling silver sheets and make them into dimensional forms of art. It is always amazing how I can bring my pieces to life.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Very delicate details on the surface; unique stones.
