David M Bowman Studio

David and Reed's low-relief abstract wallpieces are one-of-a-kind, timeless designs. They are durable, and have a strong sculptural presence, freeing your wall space from the tyranny of the rectangular frame. The pieces are lighter in weight than they appear, and can be hung on any sort of wall. Like most of our pieces, this one can be hung at any angle for different effects.

This wallpiece represents a development of the design language David has developed since his very first wallpieces. We call this general format, with a pair of asymmetric rectangular wings interrupted by an array of vertical blocks, our 'traditional' design. This particular piece is unusual among the 'traditional' group in its pervasive use of sharp angles, from the ends of the wings where they meet the wall, to the multiply angled central piece. The color of the wings is a three-layer patina we call "white ochre," with a depth and variegation reminiscent of Brazilian soapstone, which has been applied alternating with artfully random machine engraving creating loops and random traceries of engraving through to the brass beneath.

This piece measures 16 by 40 inches, and is 3.5 inches deep at its deepest point. It can be hung out of doors in a protected location, though the colors may change over time in the weather. Indoors it should be stable for a lifetime.
