Freeform, wavy vases in the natural colors heat produces on copper. A long piece of copper sheet is folded, creased, and re-opened in the foldforming technique called a 'Plunkett fold'. The process leaves all the edges wavy, and no two pieces are alike. The inside of the fold is patinaed with a traditional blue-green/verdigris sculptural patina. The inserted sides of the vase are textured with flowed bronze. Each vase is tested for water-tightness. These vases hold larger flower bouquets than most of our vases, but the vases make their own sculptural statement, alone or in groups, without any flowers.
The gallery I first made these for refers to them as 'paper bag vases'. Their wavy, unpredictable, wabi-sabi aesthetic is a contrast with our more minimalist, geometric designs, but the assembly technique, side texture, and colors all tie in with our other work.
