Reed's pedestal tables are a clean, contemporary design with great visual mass ideal for craftsman décor or modern homes. Its shape calls to mind both ancient architecture and prehistoric megaliths, interpreted through a modern craftsman's eye.
Each table is constructed from brass sheet, patinaed, and bolted together, in the technique we use for wallpieces. Including the top, the standard size is about 23" high - ideal as a sofa end table. The glass top is 15" square, and the base tapers from 13" to 10".
This color combination is a study in warm browns; the brown outsides are the patina used on most outdoor bronze statues, applied while heating the metal, with inset sides in the intricately variegated honey browns given by high heat on copper. The top is foldformed with multiple creased 'dunes' of brass, blackened with the heat of annealing in the foldforming process, then toned down and blended with a thin layer of the same brown patina as the outsides. All of our patinas are hand work, and therefore somewhat variable. This table may be used outdoors in a sheltered location, but should not be subjected to severe weather or placed where standing water may accumulate.
I can make this design in a wide range of sizes, up to a maximum of 40 or 43 inches tall (36" to 40" with 15" square glass tops cost $4250-$4550). The proportions are changed subtly as it is scaled up. I also create low oblong tables for use as coffee tables in smaller spaces. Contact me for more information on creating a table for your space, either in this patina combination or using our other patinas.
All tables are made upon order. Standard sizes usually take 2-3 weeks. Larger or unusual ones will take longer.
