After enjoying a book of M.C. Escher prints, I wondered if I could create a woven piece with movement and a different view on the oblique. Well, I can, and I did.
Using hand-dyed variegated shades from deep purple to dark navy and black, and with my hands the same colors, I created this optical illusion with three graduated widths of fine cane and the thinnest possible round reed on a Red Oak base. A distinctive doubled stitch in fine cane is the appropriate final flourish.
This unique piece will hold your interest from every angle as each vertical column becomes a twisted rope.
Finished with light shellac.
