Dona Dalton

A figure rides the whale, looking towards the future. The poem Oceans, by Juan Ramon Jimenez, is painted on the lower side. The cedar whale is carved on the band saw, and the poplar figure is carved with a rotary carving tool.
Layers of latex enamel paint  are overlaid with a more transparent acrylic paint to give a watery feel.

Approximately 22" x 6" H, x 7"

The poem: I have a feeling that my boat has struck down there in the depths, against a great thing.
                And nothing happens!
                Nothing .... silence ... waves ... nothing?
Or has everything happened and we are standing now, quietly, in the new life?
