There's something special about a wall vase, which reminds you (or someone else) to fill it with flowers, and displays your flowers as art on the wall reminding you who brought them, or bringing your garden indoors.
I call these wall vases 'flower sconces' because they resemble wall wash light sconces, but are made to hold flowers. Empty they hold their own as sculptural forms for when they're temporarily lacking flowers. They hang on a nail or screw at top center, and their weight allows them to hold large and tall flowers for their size. Each sconce is hand-cut from brass sheet, brazed together, tested for water-tightness, and colored using sculptural patinas applied while heating the metal. The surface is protected with wax.
- The narrow Small Greave sconce (9.25" x 3.25") holds a few small stems, and is fairly flat to the wall.
- The wide Small Shield sconce (8.5" x 6") holds a small arrangement, and has two cross-pieces in the top opening to allow it to hold even a single stem upright. This is the most popular size for home use.
- The Large Greave (16" x 5.75") will hold a small bouquet of taller flowers.
- The Large Shield (16.5" x 11") will hold a large bouquet of flowers, or a spray of very tall flowers for a major statement or to fill a large wall area. It also has two cross-pieces in the opening to allow it to hold a smaller number of stems upright in the center. I have used the large shield for a dozen four-foot long irises or gladiolus to great effect. It is perfect for an atrium display in an office or restaurant.
Most of these colors may be used out of doors in a protected location, but I do not recommend this for dark green or distressed black. All colors will change slowly over time if out of doors.
The colors shown in the photos are listed for sale here, but most of the patina colors we make are also available; contact us for more information. I send flower sconces with the bottom point on the left unless you request otherwise.
