About The Artist

Marsha Trattner • Brooklyn, NY
Metal • WHOLESALE AVAILABLE • CUSTOM COMMISSIONS

I am an Artist-Blacksmith based in Brooklyn, making sculptures and functional objects occupying all scales. I create all the work myself, hand-hammering, forming, and welding the metal parts together. My main focus has been home furnishings, lighting, and cookware. I have an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design. I teach at the School of Visual Arts and my studio, She-Weld. Press features New York Times, Vogue, American Craft Magazine, Real Simple, and on CBSNewYork.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

Forged and welded steel, all hand made. I work very directly with the material and the forms come out of that more than a preplanned process

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Always discovering something new.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Create lightness in steel. And even in series, each piece is always different. My work, even functional pieces, comes out of my education as a sculptor. I was not trained as a blacksmith or welder, instead as an artist.
