Sarita Westrup

Rooted in basketry techniques and bricolage my artworks are inspired by where I was born and raised, the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. My basket pieces are concerned with themes such as tension, joining two spaces, and representing the bi-cultural aesthetics of my home, the borderlands. You will see, a basket that’s speckled with barbed wire, a woven arch that connects two objects, a lip dipped in cement. Each basket holds a gesture of the borderlands within its surface and form.
