Sarah Magida, based in Baltimore City, is focused on the meditative and healing aspects of her process in embroidery and fibers art works. Working long hours on her embroidery eases the anxiety of a chaotic world and brings much needed focus to her life. She calls her work "dense embroidery" given the often layered approach to stitching.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

Hand embroidery on often found fabric, I also grow a dye garden and often use plants for eco print back grounds or fabric in quilted pieces

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I love all the many techniques in fibers art. I also love aspects of how a piece comes to fruition through a meditation process and often intuitive design process. The softness of materials and delicate nature of handling creates a healing process for myself.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

My process is largely unplanned and not pre-drafted. I do not work from a pattern, all designs just pour out of me. I also grow a dye garden in my front yard, a busy urban area of Baltimore City.
