About This Artist
Myung Urso was born in South Korea and received MFA degree in Fiber Art at Hongik University (Seoul, Korea). She is a self-trained contemporary jewelry artist creates unique one-of-a-kind jewelry using fiber, paper and mixed media with precious metals since 2007. Her approach to creating artwork relies on her own aesthetic instinct having a foundation in Korean calligraphy which have been practicing since a young age. The experience helps her work unique which is both painterly and sculptural.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I regularly use organic materials for my work such as fiber, paper, wood and all sort of found materials together with sterling silver. My working process is pretty open without having a preset plan. I do not pursue perfection with my work. When I start my work I just follow the destiny for each piece. I apply various techniques such as calligraphy, sewing, painting, soldering, etc. The creative results reveal my fiber art background to make my unique one of kind jewelry.
A: My major for MFA, Fiber Art led me to appreciate all different kinds of material characteristics such as softness, flexibility richness and many more. Moreover the textures of materials fascinate me most of all.
A: I am lately very much concern about the environmental issues for the earth so that am paying more attention to eco-friendly and sustainable materials and techniques for making my art.
