Meet the Artist
About This Artist
My name is Rosa Murillo. I am an architect, painter and metalsmith. My modern and colorful wearable art pieces are inspired by geometry found in nature. The impact my work has on the environment is one of my primary concerns and using natural and repurposed elements is a critical part of my process. Experimenting with materials such as eco-friendly resins, reclaimed wood, leaves, crushed stones, recycled metals, and a variety of natural pigments is part of my creative process.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I create one of a kind 3D wearable art pieces made with reclaimed wood, eco-resin, metals and natural pigments. Each piece starts with raw materials, soldering the metals, cutting and sanding the wood and mixing the eco-resin with natural pigments. The impact my work has on the environment is one of my primary concerns and using natural and repurposed elements is a critical part of my process.
A: I loved discovering the integration of metalsmithing into art and repurposing materials that wouldn't normally be considered fine jewelry into stunning art pieces. After discovering the versatility of metals and applying my experience working with resins, paint and wood my work evolved from two-dimensional large-scale pieces into three-dimensional wearable art.
A: It's very interesting to me to think about the ephemeral aspect of some of the materials I use and how they can be preserved. Through research and experimentation, some of the objects we see everyday, and that can be considered to be ordinary, can be completely transformed when seen through a creative eye.
A: I am very inspired by architecture. How we interact with structures and objects that surrounds us and how this reciprocity influences us.
A: As an artist, I think it is our duty to keep the movement of craft alive for future generations. We have a great tool in technology where we can not only use it to document the finished piece, but also the process and meaning behind it. I strongly believe in meaningful connections through the objects I make. Observing the reaction of my customers when they interact and wear my jewelry keeps me motivated to develop new creative work.
