Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I started making bags in 2013, because at 5’1” most bags drag the ground when I hold the handle. I started making bags out of a personal need, but continued for the love of making. I'm working the slow bag movement. Materials are cut with a pair of scissors, everything is sewn on an old industrial machine, and copper rivets are hammered by hand. I make the things I want to use - things that will last. From design to production - this is a one woman show.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I love working with my hands and creating items for everyday use. I like to think about all the adventures a bag will go on - even if it's just trips to the grocery store. And honestly, grocery stores are some of my favorite places!

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I didn't really get into sewing until I made my first bag. I'm short, so bags would always drag the ground if I held them by the handles. I was tired of looking for something that would work, so I made one for myself and haven't stopped sewing since!
