Meet the Artist
About This Artist
Handmade by one little Morgan in Oakland since 2013. I'm working the slow bag movement. Materials are cut with a pair of scissors, everything is sewn on an old industrial machine, and copper rivets are hammered by hand. I make the things I want to use - things that will last. From design to production - this is a one woman show.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I've always loved waxed canvas, because I like to watch it transform over time. I pick materials that are durable and will hold up to years of use. When I design something new - it's to fill a personal need. I spend a lot of time making sure all the details function for myself - then I watch how other people use things to adjust the design to be as usable as possible.
A: I love working with my hands and creating items for everyday use. I like to think about all the adventures a bag will go on - even if it's just trips to the grocery store. And honestly, grocery stores are some of my favorite places!
A: I didn't really get into sewing until I made my first bag. I'm short, so bags would always drag the ground if I held them by the handles. I was tired of looking for something that would work, so I made one for myself and haven't stopped sewing since!
A: Bruce Springsteen! I've been a huge fan since I was a kid. I want to make things that people love for a lifetime.
A: Spending less time with friends and family during the pandemic has been really hard, but having a house full of amazing handmade things has made it a bit less lonely. Over the years I've collected from other makers I meet at markets, and I find being surrounded by their work is inspiring and it certainly brings me joy!
