Lifted Millinery hats and headpieces are created utilizing traditional and contemporary millinery tools, materials, and techniques. Headwear is formed by hand from fine materials and tailored to the wearer. Each piece is a wearable sculpture and has a fingerprint as unique as the eventual owner. Trimmings and details are created & hand sewn in place by the milliner. Fine details include handcrafted pure silk florals, meticulous beaded trim, artfully pleated ribbons, and skillfully shaped feathers.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

All hats and headpieces are created by hand in my home studio. Traditional and contemporary materials are blocked by hand over wooden forms to created the hat shape. Hats are finished and trimmed by hand using fine materials. Many trims are created by hand, specially for the hat or headpiece. Bespoke headwear is created working off measurements taken from the client and multiple fittings are scheduled to ensure a proper fitting hat.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Headwear is sculptural by nature and each hat is a chance to render a three dimensional idea in fiber. I love the transformative nature of millinery, in that it can take every day materials and elevate them to a statement making headpiece. I also enjoy introducing new hat wearers to the joy of having a custom piece created just for them. The collaborative nature of bespoke pieces is invigorating.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I incorporate many upcycled materials in my work but they are often so altered that they are unrecognizable from their original form. I find inspiration in the discarded.
