About The Artist

James Aarons • Mokelumne Hill, CA
Ceramics • WHOLESALE AVAILABLE • CUSTOM COMMISSIONS

I have always made things. My hands don't sleep. For this, I feel fortunate. Plus, I have the good luck to be able to share my creative endeavors with others in the form of modest wall pieces for home and office and large commissioned compositions for corporate, hospitality, and healthcare settings. Each of my pieces is treated as a one of a kind and made in my one person studio. Detail, finish, polish, and client wishes all play key roles in the formation of my work.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

My work is made by hand, one shape at a time. Once the design process is complete, including digital and drawn sketches, macquettes, etc, hand rolled slabs, cut, torn, bent and otherwise formed, are combined with wheel thrown shapes to produce each of my works in a one person studio.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Clay is malleable. Clay is earth. Clay is an essential component in our environments and in my art practice.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

My work is placed in hospitality and healthcare settings because it distracts from the tensions and troubles of the day. My compositions, often richly colored, remind us that levity heals.
