Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

Joe Jacob is a master of antique reproductions. He uses traditional wood working techniques to create the very contemporary pieces that Evy Rogers designs. Joe drafts full scale drawings and cuts out the blank metal shapes that Evy paints with an acid resistant paint. He submerges the metal in acid which burns the art into the metal. He then incorporates the metal art into the wood to create clocks, tables and art furniture.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

The 2 of us have developed a unique technique for acid etching aluminum. Combining the metal art with wood has given both of us a chance to showcase our talents. Our work is unlike anything we have ever seen. It is rewarding to have our work easily recognized.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Joe and I are from different studios. We were both working independently. We met at a gallery opening and everything clicked. We developed our own style by combining our wood and metal and we have found that working together stimulates creativity.
