About The Artist

Tim Harding • Minneapolis, MN
Fiber & Textiles • CUSTOM COMMISSIONS

I am a long time textile art exhibitor with ACC shows, going back to 1984, but am not currently doing shows. My technique is primarily a complex form of reverse appliqué stitched constructions. The wall pieces we produce are richly colored and textured. The materials used are lustrous, iridescent silks and synthetics. We do have existing pieces available for purchase, but also produce commissioned pieces customized for the collectors specific wall space.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

The actual construction of my pieces is a stitching technique involving: collage layering of woven fabrics, stitching, cutting, and multiple manipulations.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

My educational background is in studio arts with an emphasis in painting. As a textile artist, I am primarily self-taught. As an aspiring painter, I had been stretching and manipulating my canvases. At one point I had the epiphany that I'm more interested in the canvas than the paint. The intrinsic physical properties of of the material drew me in: the textural, tactile richness, the pliable plane, the inherent grid of the weave, as well as the complex cultural roles of this medium. Textiles have an intimacy with the viewer that is unique to the medium.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

The processes used in creating my work is unique, in that it is a complex combination of quilting and painterly techniques that I developed through experimentation and constant refinement over a period of several years.
