About The Artist

Genevieve Flynn • Kansas City, MO

Using nature as my inspiration, I endeavor to create expertly crafted heirloom vessels. The fluid lines and sensuous feel of the Art Nouveau era is reflected in my work. I fabricate all of my work and each piece is cut and shaped from sheets of metal. Ancient metal techniques such as chasing, repoussé, saw piercing and others are incorporated to add detail, dimension, interest and beauty.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I am a solo artist who designs and creates each item by hand. The majority of my work is fabricated and I use ancient metals techniques to create the 3 dimensionality of my pieces. I use chasing and repoussé to make my pieces come alive with the images chosen.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I am intrigued with the processes I use as each one allows me to create pieces that stand out from other works of art. Repoussé has allowed me the unique position in the art world to adorn works in a manner most metals artists do not use.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I adore nature and use images of birds, insects and nature in my works. You will be surprised to find insects in my art jewelry as well as my vessels.
