We make 75 pieces a year. We believe in beauty, in a fair curve and in perfect proportions.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

We work almost exclusively with local materials found in our area of northern California. We harvest and process a lot of the wood ourselves and dry it in our solar wood drying kiln. There is something deeply satisfying about transforming a tree into something beautiful and functional used in everyday life. Our shop is off the grid and is powered with 75% solar energy.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Robert began developing our unique back support system we call “the Floating Back” in the mid-1970’s. It has become a signature of our comfortable line of chairs. Tor’s skill in computer-aided design has added a dimension to our service for clients who want to order a unique one of a kind piece of furniture. These dynamic visual presentations provide clients with an opportunity to accurately see what their custom furniture will look like.
