Meet the Artist
About This Artist
My inspiration comes from the daily exploration of geometric forms. These observations, along with the use of non-traditional materials such as powder coating, provide an interesting component to how my work evolves. I am intrigued by the uncontrolled edge and controlled geometric line in the environment of my pieces.
Q&A With This Artist
A: All of my work is handmade by me in my studio in Charlotte, NC. As a maker and owner of Eli Arenas Jewelry I like to create all of my designs out of paper and find the possibilities of that specific piece to be transformed into metal.
A: I am passionate about working with metal because of its flexibility to adapt. Metal can be cut, formed, transformed with color and textured. We as people are capable of adapting in the same way.
A: Something unique about my work is the interaction between the geometry of my designs with the uncontrolled edge of the powder coating. Each piece is slightly different due to the fact that the powder coating takes control when I apply it to the metal.
A: A lot of things inspire me everyday and it is hard to point to just one area. I am constantly inspired by going on a daily walk, hiking or a trip to the beach with my family as well as to the colors of my colorful country Mexico.
A: Craft goes beyond the ideas in the studio. We as makers are constantly influenced by our surroundings and in the same way we represent our visions through our art. We have the ability to connect with people from all around the world and from different backgrounds.
