About This Artist
I believe that beautiful craftsmanship with a twist of unexpected design has the power to inspire you every day. Edna Madera is a first-generation American studio jeweler working in Kansas City, Missouri. She meticulously crafts fine jewelry with threads of 24 karat gold that are torch fused over silver, one strand at a time, capturing movement in her signature wispy effect. Each piece is hand-wrought and finished with 18 karat gold and natural diamonds.
Q&A With This Artist
A: Choosing sustainable materials whenever possible is a key mission at Edna Madera Studio. My signature technique is executed with 90% recycled 24 karat, 18 karat gold and silver sourced from the same American refinery I have trusted for over 25 years. Natural gemstones and diamonds are sourced by dealers and suppliers who champion conflict-free gems from safe origins. Each piece from the collection is truly one-of-a-kind. Threads of 24 karat gold are individually cut and torch fused, one-by-one, to create a wispy and windblown effect. The nature of this process requires time, technique and focus on the development of each composition as it unfolds. No two pieces are alike.
A: My studio practice with precious metals is a self-charging system. I am energized for the work by doing the work.
A: Home cooking (hello chicken soup!), talking shop with studio artists and studio jewelers in the Stay Gold Collective (thanks Liz Kantner!), and teaching high school students how to silversmith (I’m so incredibly proud of my students!).
