About This Artist
Devyn Vasquez is currently based in Asheville, NC where she maintains a multi-media practice that explores metalsmithing, woodworking, and textiles. Having completed the Core Fellowship at Penland School of Craft in 2020, Vasquez continues to pursue collaborative projects and material explorations in her professional and personal life. She holds a BFA in studio art and a BS in art management from Appalachian State University.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I work with a number of different materials but am particularly interested in developing modular components that can be configured/joined in multiple ways. I have started utilizing CAD processes in some of my metal work and am curious to continue expanding on this process in other mediums.
A: Working with a rigid material and discovering that there is an inherent softness to it. The challenge of working reductively — starting with a sheet of metal or length of fabric and paring it down into meticulous scraps that eventually make sense of each other.
A: Collaboration has become an increasingly important, and almost vital, component of my work and process. I am truly just excited to share and learn alongside others.
A: There is so much value in being able to communicate in ways that exist outside of language.
