  • Q&A With This Artist

A: Debora Crichton bags are all handmade in her Atlanta studio. They are made from a variety of natural materials: cowhide, wool felt, leather and even cork. Her newest line is made from vegan vinyl. Most bags are lined with industrial felt, and include inside pockets.

A: I love the sculptural quality of leather and felt. Wool felt comes in amazing colors and I love making new handbag shapes that require engineering as well as art.

A: My first 20 years in the workplace were in aerospace. Also, I love to make toys.

A: I have many Instagram artist friends - many from Slavic nations - who are incredible crafters and are always inspiring me.

A: One of my favorite things to do is showing children new crafts. I have taught so many “Project Runway” classes where students make clothing and accessories and then show their work in a fashion show at the end of class. For me, craft was such a “safe place” for me growing up and so many of my students have found the same solace in craft.
