I am a Venezuelan born artist living in south Florida. Since I was a child I knew I wanted to work in the visual arts and was fortunate to receive training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I learned about fused glass during my fine arts training and have developed my practice in this area. For me glass offers the perfect blend of color and shape that makes it irresistible. I specialize in decorative fused glass centerpieces that bring light and life to any environment.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

My work is made by cutting different sheets of colored glass, then layering them on a kiln shelf until I have the design I desire. Once the design is done the glass is fired at which temperature in order to fuse it together. After the first firing, if I am still happy with the design the glass is placed in a mold and fired again at lower temperature to give it it's shape.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

For me Glass represents a constant challenge, As it is a medium with a life of it's own that is only evident once it reaches a high temperature. That is what fascinates me as I can never know if the piece that comes out of the kiln will hold the design I intended to make or if it wants to become something else. The beauty of it's colors as it reflects light is another aspect of it I am passionate about, it is possible to achieve unique and vibrant colors through the juxtaposition of glass that is not achievable in any other medium.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

My work reflects what I am experiencing moment by moment, it is therefore not a unified body of work with a common theme or style other than the fact that it all includes fused glass. My body of work is free and playful.
