About The Artist

Dana Fear • Cedar, MI

Sophisticated fidget jewelry designed to respond to the natural movements of the wearer. My jewelry designs are born from the experience of feeling invisible. The responsiveness of the sliding wires or flipping components are both playful and calming through intentional interaction or the mindless motions of everyday life. The kinetic elements also produce a gentle sound so the jewelry becomes not only adornment but a companion to the wearer consistently calling back, "You exist."

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I use basic fabrication techniques of cutting, filling and soldering. Many pieces or finished with a liver of sulfur patina or polished the tumbled. Each piece also incorporates my signature cross-hatch texture.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

I believe that the need or desire to fidget never goes away. Even as adults we all have anxiety to manage and my jewelry offers and sophisticated option for fidgeting that is gender neutral, classy, playful and calming.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

Most people don't understand what I mean right away by "kinetic jewelry" or assume "fidget" means childish. It isn't until the piece is seen in motion that they fully grasp the concept and, when in person, can feel the connection with the piece and how it can be a welcome companion to wear on their body.
