About This Artist
Christine Goh is a ceramic artist based in Maryland. She is inspired by nature and the changing seasons. In her designs, she is interested in juxtaposing modern and traditional elements in artful and functional works. She builds composite forms from wheel thrown and altered components. These forms are canvases for painting and mono-printing slips and glazes. She believes that craft is important for connecting the human spirit, through the creative making process to the usage of the objects.
Q&A With This Artist
A: I work with porcelain, stoneware and paper clay. I explore the aesthetic and structural possibilities of clay by building composite forms with wheel thrown, altered and carved components. These forms are canvases for mono-printing and painting slips, stains and glazes.
A: Through my work in architectural design, I felt drawn to focus my creative journey on a craft that I could develop on a smaller personal scale. I chose clay, as it is a very accessible material, and the oldest form of craft that can be made into both fine and functional art. In my hands, clay becomes a three dimensional built form that provides a surface for added textural details and color rendering. I am passionate about the myriad possibilities of the ceramic form and the incorporation of other materials.
A: Online creative courses, music, audio books, podcasts, trail hikes and walks with my puppy, tea and incense.
