About The Artist

Clothing & Accessories

I work in a micro studio in NE Minneapolis where I create complex textured designs from cut paper illustrations and print them on to fabric. My work is a combination of paper and fabric; low tech collage art meets high tech digital printing. With these original and unusual textiles, I design and sew accessories and home goods. I am an active teaching artist both in my community and online, and I am passionate about helping artists conquer technology barriers to make their work more accessible.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Textiles by their very nature encourage people to interact with them. You can’t help but want to touch the rich plush of a velvet or see how a scarf feels against your skin. Often they are functional objects that you might use every day, like a scarf or a tea towel. I love taking that everyday object and making it something special with a quirky or unique design that starts a conversation, tells a story, or just makes you smile every time it’s in your hands.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

The most striking thing about my work is that I design and print every fabric that I use. Each design starts as paper collage using recycled and handpainted papers. I scan and digitally engineer those illustrations into repeating patterns. Every piece has a hidden story or inspiration behind the design: butterflies made from photos of construction equipment, a bouquet of carnivorous plants native to MN, a bold floral based on vintage doorknobs, or a mosaic of trout made from advertising photos.
