Meet the Artist

  • About This Artist

I have been working in clay for more than 40 years now and I still find it an exciting and challenging medium. I make both sculptural and functional pieces. Clay is such primal, responsive medium, it records every touch. Each step of the process adds another layer of meaning and records the care taken to achieve the final form. A handmade object tells a lot by how the rim meets your lip, the weight and bounty of its capacity to contain, or its mere physical presence.

A: Clay is such primal responsive medium, it records every touch. Each step of the process adds another layer of meaning and records the care taken to achieve the final form. I make both functional and sculptural pieces and find a handmade object can give comfort to the recipient by how it feels in the hand, how the rim meets your lip, the weight and bounty of its capacity to contain, or its mere visual presence.

A: The longer I work with clay the more I realize that it will always challenge and surprise me.

A: I do find much inspiration in spending time in nature, going for hikes clears my head and refreshes me.

A: A simple handmade object can create a bond between the maker and the recipient. I try to put positive thoughts and energy into each piece that I make.
