Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

I create my unique ceramic sculptures and pottery using wheel-thrown and slab construction techniques. I am exploring many different layered surface techniques. Sculptural pieces may include some mixed media elements. These elements are chosen with care to help make the piece resonate with a shared cultural experience and often make people laugh. Porcelain and white stoneware are the clay bodies used and pieces are fired using a high-fired gas kiln and an occasional Raku kiln firing.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

Clay is such a responsive and exciting material, it records every touch. Subtle variations occur with each firing and there are endless possibilities for exploration.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

I love trying new ideas. I enjoy the process of sculptural pieces as well as functional work for everyday pleasure. The development of new forms and narrative sculptural pieces keeps me engaged and growing as a ceramic artist.
