About The Artist

Ava M. Hu • Clearwater, FL
Clothing & Accessories • WHOLESALE AVAILABLE

avalove is a poet and artist self-publishing her work on fabric. I view my prints as works of art and my body of clothing as the canvas. Poetry inspires the metaphor of the visual images so often the shirts tell stories. Like a drawing in a journal. Or a photograph in a photo album. Marks some kind of place in time mapped out by image. avalove silkscreens oversized nature prints on fabrics, as well as her flower dye line- called avalove botanics, dyed by hand with flower petals and barks.

Q&A with the Artist

Tell us how your work is made.

Silkscreen, or if botanics line, dyed with flower petals and barks, dreamy inspiration.

What makes you passionate about the medium you work with?

The part I like about my work most is the dream. Handmade gear is a part of living the dream: the artist dreams when they make their work, and you buying it, helps support them to live their dream, and you then become a part of that dream, and add to it. It's a wonderful give and take. Each piece then means much more when the value and magic of the work is understood in this way. The people who wear avalove inspire me with each and every piece. avalove is about bringing inspiration to the wearer.

What is something unique about you or your practice?

My background in making sculpture and writing poetry is the root of what avalove is. Less about fashion and more about making art pieces who sing poetry, or inspire the wearer to become the art itself. Each piece is a metaphor for this inspiration or the poetic self coming to life.
