Q&A With This Artist
A: Everything is cut from brass; most pieces are powder coated and then finished with sterling silver findings. In some of my newer pieces, I am leaving the brass exposed and adding a heat patina. I cut my pieces out of brass sheet metal using a traditional jeweler’s saw and for some of the simpler shapes I employ some waterjet cutting. To apply the color, I use an industrial process called power coating. This method of painting electrostatically covers the metal with a dry pigment, which is then cured under heat to create a durable uniform finish.
A: The history of jewelry/wearable objects and the significance it holds throughout time and across cultures is ripe. Also, I really enjoy the physicality of the process and the ability to create something delicate from something so strong.
A: Honestly, being a new parent during this pandemic has been a real challenge when it comes to working. Whenever I get “free” time, I just want to be in my studio because I really miss it and it calms me.
